April in Argentina: Visitors Guide For Tourism, Weather, and Things To Do
Argentina in April brings cooler fall weather, beautiful autumn colors, and fewer crowds. Here’s what to expect before you go.

April is firmly within fall in Argentina, bringing cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and fewer visitors than during the busy summer months.
It is one of my favorite times for combining Buenos Aires, Mendoza, and Patagonia because the summer heat has faded while winter has not fully arrived.
Argentina’s official tourism board also recommends autumn for destinations throughout the country, from the north all the way to Tierra del Fuego.

Argentina Weather in April
April brings noticeably cooler fall weather, although temperatures vary considerably depending on where you travel.
- Buenos Aires: Average highs are around 73°F (23°C) with lows near 59°F (15°C).
- Mendoza: Average highs are around 75°F (24°C) with lows near 51°F (11°C).
- Northern Argentina: Places such as Iguazú remain considerably warmer and more humid than Buenos Aires and Patagonia.
- Ushuaia: Average highs are only around 50°F (10°C) with lows close to 38°F (3°C).
- Buenos Aires can still experience rain, averaging around 4.5 inches during April.
- Mendoza is considerably drier, averaging less than 1 inch of precipitation.
- Patagonia becomes colder as the month progresses, and snow is possible in the far south and higher elevations.
What this means for your trip:
April is a great month for sightseeing because you avoid much of the intense summer heat. Pack layers if you are visiting several regions—you may be comfortable in a light jacket in Buenos Aires while needing much warmer clothing in southern Patagonia.

Argentina Sunrise & Sunset in April
Daylight becomes noticeably shorter during April, particularly the farther south you travel.
- In Buenos Aires, April begins with about 11 hours and 42 minutes of daylight.
- Sunrise is around 7:06 a.m. and sunset around 6:47 p.m. early in the month.
- By April 30, Buenos Aires receives around 10 hours and 44 minutes of daylight, with sunset around 6:12 p.m.
- In Ushuaia, April begins with roughly 11 hours and 18 minutes of daylight.
- By April 30, Ushuaia has only around 9 hours and 15 minutes of daylight, with sunrise near 8:52 a.m. and sunset around 6:07 p.m.
You still have enough daylight for sightseeing throughout most of the country, but Patagonia requires a little more planning than it does during the long summer days.
April Is Shoulder Season in Argentina
April is generally shoulder season in Argentina, falling between the busy summer travel period and the colder winter months.
- Demand: Visitor numbers are generally lower than they are from December through February.
- Pricing: Hotels and domestic flights can be more affordable than during peak summer.
- Patagonia: Crowds drop considerably, although many outdoor attractions remain accessible during at least part of April.
- Buenos Aires: Cooler temperatures and fewer summer tourists make April an excellent month for walking and sightseeing.
- Mendoza: Harvest season is winding down, but wineries remain active and the vineyards take on beautiful fall colors.
- Holiday exception: Semana Santa, or Holy Week, can temporarily increase domestic travel, hotel demand, and prices when Easter falls during April.
- Booking tip: You generally have more flexibility than during summer, but book ahead if your dates overlap Easter or if you have specific Patagonia hotels and excursions in mind.

Best Things To Do in Argentina in April
April is especially good for city sightseeing, wine country, fall scenery, and visiting Patagonia before winter arrives.
- Explore Buenos Aires – April’s cooler weather is great for walking through Palermo, Recoleta, San Telmo, La Boca, and the historic center without dealing with summer heat.
- Visit Mendoza wine country – The main grape harvest is wrapping up, but the vineyards turn shades of yellow, orange, and red, making April a beautiful time for winery visits and scenic drives.
- See the fall colors in Bariloche – April brings autumn foliage to the forests around Bariloche, along with cooler temperatures and fewer summer visitors. Argentina’s tourism board specifically highlights Bariloche as an April destination.
- Explore Patagonia with fewer crowds – April can still be excellent for El Calafate, Los Glaciares National Park, and parts of El Chaltén, although temperatures are colder and some seasonal services begin winding down later in the month.
- Visit Perito Moreno Glacier – Cooler weather and fewer visitors make April a good time to see one of Patagonia’s most famous landscapes without peak-summer crowds.
- See Tierra del Fuego in fall – Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego are especially beautiful when the forests turn red, gold, and orange. April is one of the best months for experiencing these autumn colors.
- Visit Iguazú Falls – Northern Argentina remains warm, and fall can be more comfortable for exploring the waterfalls and surrounding rainforest than the hottest summer months.
