Mid-January to Early February (Post–New Year Dip)

This is one of the most consistent low-demand stretches after holiday travel ends. Airfare often drops compared with spring and summer.

Money-saving tip: Fly midweek (Tuesday–Thursday) for better pricing odds.
Exception: Early February can bump up on certain dates if winter festival travel and ski trips increase demand (even if that’s not your plan).

June (Rainy-Season Value)

June is often cheaper because a lot of travelers avoid the wetter weather. If you don’t mind some rain, this can be one of the best-value months to fly.

Money-saving tip: Compare both Tokyo airports—Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT). Sometimes one is noticeably cheaper for the same week.
Exception: If you’re traveling at the very end of June, prices can start building toward summer peak.

Peak within peak: The last week of March and the first half of April are often the toughest for deals.

Late April to Early May (Golden Week)

Golden Week is one of Japan’s biggest holiday periods. Flight prices often surge and availability tightens fast.

Peak within peak: The exact Golden Week dates plus the weekends around them.

Mid-August (Obon)

Obon creates a major travel rush. Flights can get very expensive, especially for popular routes and last-minute bookings.

Late December to Early January (New Year)

Year-end travel is one of the busiest periods. Late December departures and early January returns are frequently priced at a premium.
