Cost To Visit Cambodia: Travel Budget Guide (2026)

Overview

What to expect: Cambodia can be inexpensive day to day, but temple visits, long-distance travel, and island resorts can raise your total quickly.

You can eat well and find an affordable room without much trouble. The bigger decisions are how many days you spend at Angkor, how often you travel between cities, and whether you add time on the islands.

The estimates below are for one traveler paying for their own room and cover ordinary daily expenses. International flights, visa costs, and unusually expensive tours are separate.

Cambodia Vacation Costs Breakdown

Avg. Accommodation Cost

Rates below are per room or dorm bed, per night. The upper end can climb further at standout resorts and during busy holidays.

Peak Season

  • Budget Travelers: $12–$30 for a dorm bed or simple private room.
  • Mid-Range Travelers: $35–$85 for a comfortable hotel or guesthouse.
  • Luxury Travelers: $120–$350+ for an upscale hotel or resort.

Shoulder Season

  • Budget Travelers: $10–$25.
  • Mid-Range Travelers: $30–$70.
  • Luxury Travelers: $105–$300+.

Off-Season

  • Budget Travelers: $8–$22.
  • Mid-Range Travelers: $25–$60.
  • Luxury Travelers: $90–$260+.

Food Cost

  • Street food and simple local meals: Often around $2–$5 per meal.
  • Casual restaurant meal: Plan roughly $5–$12.
  • Upscale dinner: Around $20–$40+ per person, with drinks adding more.
  • Budget daily food allowance: About $12–$20 if you mainly eat at local spots.
  • Mid-range daily food allowance: About $25–$45 if you mix local restaurants with cafés and nicer dinners.
  • Luxury daily food allowance: About $55–$100+.

You can keep food costs low without eating the same thing every day. In Siem Reap, a simple breakfast, Khmer lunch, and relaxed dinner can still leave room in your budget for the next morning’s tuk-tuk ride.

Transportation Cost

Getting Around Cambodia

  • Short city tuk-tuk rides: Allow roughly $2–$6, depending on the trip and whether you book through an app.
  • Longer local rides or sightseeing by tuk-tuk: Budget more; agree on the route and total price before setting off.
  • Intercity buses: Common routes often fall around $10–$25+, depending on distance and service. A premium Phnom Penh–Siem Reap bus typically costs more than a basic minivan.
  • Private intercity transfer: Costs considerably more than a bus and is most appealing when the price can be shared.
  • Island ferries: Price these separately when building a beach itinerary; schedules and fares depend on the operator and destination.

Airport → City

  • Siem Reap Angkor International Airport → Siem Reap: Plan about $8–$10 for a shared airport bus or transfer when available; a private ride costs more. Check where your chosen service drops you off.
  • Techo International Airport → Phnom Penh: An Airport Express Bus serves the city. Check its current fare, route, and operating hours before arrival; taxis and private transfers cost more.

Attractions

  • Angkor Archaeological Park:
$37 for one day, $62 for three days, or $72 for seven days. Transport and guided tours are separate. A guided Angkor Wat sunrise tour can make an early start easier to arrange.
  • Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek:
Allow for separate admission and transport, or compare the total with a combined guided visit. These are places to approach with time and respect.
  • Kampong Phluk and Tonlé Sap:
Boat and transport charges vary by itinerary. Check what a tour includes before paying, particularly the boat ride.
  • Phnom Kulen:
Allow for admission and a longer journey from Siem Reap. A Phnom Kulen and Banteay Srei day trip is one way to combine the stops.
  • Beng Mealea and Koh Ker:
These farther-flung temples make a full day from Siem Reap. Compare a combined day trip with separate driver and admission costs.

Cambodia Day Trip & Attraction Costs

The Cost column is a broad planning allowance for one traveler’s transport and listed attraction, before food. Guided tours and private vehicles may cost more; check whether a quoted tour includes admission.

Choeung Ek from Phnom Penh Tuk-tuk or shared tour Memorial site $15–$45+

How to Spend Less in Cambodia

  • Give each stop enough time. Constantly changing cities adds bus fares, station transfers, and rushed sightseeing days.
  • Price Angkor as a complete outing. Compare the pass, driver, guide, and meals together. The three-day pass may suit you better than trying to see every temple in one long day.
  • Mix local meals with occasional splurges. A few inexpensive meals can make room for a dinner you’re excited about.
  • Compare mainland and island nights separately. A low-cost week in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap does not automatically translate to the same weekly total on the coast.
  • Check what a tour includes. A low advertised price may leave admission, boat tickets, or pickup to be paid later.
