March provides excellent conditions for beaches, ruins, cenotes, and nature excursions. The afternoons become noticeably hotter toward the end of the month, so plan archaeological sites and active outings during the morning.

## Best Things To Do in Tulum in March

March’s dry weather and warm temperatures make it an excellent month for combining beaches, Maya history, cenotes, and nature.

- **Explore the Tulum ruins** – Arrive close to opening time to see the famous walled Maya city before the largest tour groups and strongest afternoon heat. Tulum was an important Maya settlement positioned above the Caribbean coastline.
- **Spend time at the beach** – Visit Playa Paraíso or another stretch of Tulum’s coastline for swimming and relaxing. March is generally less affected by sargassum than late spring and summer, although conditions can vary from year to year.
- **Swim in a cenote** – Visit Gran Cenote, Dos Ojos, or another nearby freshwater swimming hole. The shaded water provides a refreshing break as March afternoons become warmer.
- **Explore Sian Ka’an** – Take a guided excursion through the reserve’s tropical forests, mangroves, wetlands, lagoons, and marine habitats.
- **Visit the Cobá ruins** – Make a day trip inland to explore another important Maya archaeological site surrounded by jungle.
- **Explore downtown Tulum** – Spend an evening visiting local restaurants, shops, cafes, and bars away from the more expensive beachfront hotel zone.
- **Take an early bike ride** – March mornings are well suited to cycling between town, the archaeological zone, and nearby beaches.
- **Watch the sunrise from the beach** – Tulum’s east-facing coastline provides beautiful sunrise views before the beaches become busy.
